Battery Info

Battery Best Practices

  • New batteries should be fully charged before initial use. Several cycles are necessary to reach maximum capacity.
  • Store batteries in a cool, dry location to reduce chances for corrosion on battery terminals.
  • Never fully discharge a battery! Do not fully discharge batteries by taping the trigger in the on position or by leaving work lights on.
  • Recharge a battery when a tool is no longer able to complete the current application.
  • Never forcibly heat up or cool down batteries. Allow batteries to reach appropriate temperatures without assistance of heating or cooling devices.
  • Never leave batteries on chargers where power interruptions are common.
  • Never submerge batteries in liquid.

Battery Facts

  • Heat is the worst enemy for a battery. The material that stores and releases the electrical charge within the battery can be damaged by heat.
  • Professional power tool batteries do not have memory effect. Memory effect occurs in batteries that have repetitive charge and discharge cycles such as cell phones or computer batteries. Power tools do not have a memory effect since they do not discharge at the same rate everyday. Power tool battery discharges vary due to various applications they perform and materials they operate on.
  • Damaged battery cells may exhibit reversal, (reversal of polarity or short circuit).
  • Reversal can be caused by:
  • Running a battery until it no longer operates, (taping triggers in the on position, or leaving work lights on).
  • Cells do not all discharge at the same rate, weaker cells can be depleted completely if stronger cells continue to provide power. Top-Off mode and maintenance charging will help to maintain cells at the same level.
